I have read the information I found on about.com. So my question is what does an MP do on a deployment? Thanks.

In the current situations:

~Patrols

~Guard important things

~Access control to important places

~Protection details for VIPs

~Train Iraqi natives in techniques.

By patrols I'm guessing you mean street patrols and by "access control to important places" I'm guessing you mean by force. Thanks.

Correct.

Protection and access points would be along the lines of checkpoints where cars, people, camels, packages, etc are checked. Placed in areas with high military value.

You may find this helpful. It is centered on a National Guard unit, but relevant.

My best friend is an MP currently in Iraq. His job is to provide convoy security for convoys. Simple as that. He is either in the first humvee or last and juts out to provide security on all avenues of approach to make sure no one breaks the convoy lines and to stop any suicide bombers. Pretty simple actually. Seems like grunt work to me without enough shooting, but whatever.
