Visitors gathered at the Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History at Fort Missoula on Sunday to learn about the connection between Libby, St. Louis, Missouri and the battle of Iwo Jima.

Sandy Riney Mickelson grew up in St. Louis and her father served in the Marines on Iwo Jima. He was wounded but survived before dying in a vehicle accident on Guam when Michaelson was only three years old.

As an adult, she vowed to find her dad's best friend in the Marines, and to learn more about her father along the way.

On Sunday she talked about the search that led her to Libby, and the family of the late Ralph Roberts.

"I really didn't think I would be telling this story when I started. It was a personal quest. It was something I needed to know for me. It turned out much different than that."

Over the past three years, Mickelson has gathered video from her search and we'll have her special report during the 5:30 News on Montana's News Station.
