Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Colonel George E. “Bud” Day, the nation's most highly decorated officer since General Douglas MacArthur. Colonel Day is a veteran of more than 30 years service in the Armed Forces of the United States. Shot down over North Vietnam on August 26, 1967, Day spent 67 months as a Prisoner of War. Colonel Day was the only POW to escape from prison in North Vietnam and then to be recaptured by the Viet Cong in the South. He is also credited with living through the first "no chute" bailout from a burning jet fighter in England in 1955. At the time of his shoot-down, Colonel Day was one of the nation's most experienced jet fighter pilots, with 4,500 hours of single engine jet time, and more than 5,000 hours of flying time. Today he is the Director and President of the Vietnam Veterans Legacy Foundation.

FP: Colonel George E. “Bud” Day, welcome to Frontpage Interview.

Day: Glad to talk to you.

FP: Let’s begin with the lawsuit that was brought to silence former POW's, many who were speaking out for the first time in 30 years.

Day: Well, because we POWs supported the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth in the 2004 campaign, we were sued in a couple of frivolous lawsuits to try to stop us from speaking about the treachery of the far left during Vietnam. We had learned of the multitude of lies about misconduct of U.S. servicemen in Vietnam, which led to blackening the good name of every Vietnam veteran. These lies were told to justify cutting off the funds to the Vietnamese Army so that Communist North Vietnam could win. That is what happened. John Kerry, Jane Fonda, Vietnam Vets Against the War and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee were able to mislead the American public, and to force the United States to abandon its Vietnamese Army friends -- who were holding their own against the Commies.

We did our best to expose those lies, and to inform the public of the outright fabrications that John Kerry read to the public in February 1970.

FP: What does this suit tell us about the Left?

Day: What this suit tells us about the Left is that they will do or say anything that will get these George McGovern "surrender at any cost Democrats" elected. They are not concerned of the military being killed in this war, because they want to surrender so that our Muslim enemies can defeat us. For example, John Murtha claims that U.S. Marines defending themselves in Iraq were murderers. Senators compare us to the Nazis. The truth is that our Marines were engaged in self-defense.

Back during Vietnam, Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden intended to overthrow the U.S. government in a time of war. They were supported by Senator Frank Church, George McGovern, Jake Javits, William Fulbright and this bevy of defeatists. Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, etc -- all of whom wanted the U.S. to be defeated. They snatched victory away and turned it into defeat.

The same Left is trying to do the same thing in Iraq right now. Cut off the money. Lose the war. Set us up for surrender to Bin Laden and Iran.

FP: Why do you think the Left craves for its own society to be defeated by a totalitarian enemy?

Day: The Left craves for the U.S. to be defeated because there is still a strong Communist influence. Jane Fonda was married to and lived with a dedicated Commie activist in Paris, back in her earlier hippie days. She has never gotten over the "surrender to some oppressive dictator" mode, nor has the Democratic party leftwing, who still listen to the surrender rantings of George McGovern, Jane Fonda, and the William Fulbright followers. The KGB spent huge amounts of money in the U.S. back during and following Vietnam, with the constant theme of surrender to North Vietnam, leave our prisoners in jail there, and helped fund the Vietnam Vets Against the War.

Some of those VVAW members had their way paid to Europe, Moscow, and the Iron Curtain countries to lie about American atrocities in Vietnam. Many have told those lies so many times that they have come to believe their own (and) Soviet propaganda. Just recently, a significant player in the VVAW testified under oath that the KGB paid for his travels to Russia and Europe to tell his anti-war stories about Vietnam. (This was the first sworn testimony from any of the VVAW members, and was a very different version than what they told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 1971). No surprise.

However, in a recent survey of that group, almost 100% of the early VVAW members have denied being involved in any atrocities, seeing atrocities, or having any knowledge of atrocities.

FP: What are your thoughts on the preset day terror war and how it should be fought? Your thoughts in particular on Iraq and Iran.

Day: It is quite clear that General Patraeus has a better strategy than did his predecessors in Iraq.

He is using much the same strategy that the Marines and General Abrams used in Vietnam. It worked very well in Nam, and appears to be working well now, particularly in Anbar province, perhaps the most violent in Iraq. Deaths of civilians are way down, and the loss of U.S. servicemen is down to about 1 per day, or less. This is the lowest death rate since very early in the Iraq war.

This improvement in casualties is very good news for the war on terror, which has been waged mainly by non-Iraqis -- Al Qaeda, Syrians, Moroccans, Egyptians, etc. (volunteer suicide bombers).

The seize and hold tactics of the Army and Marines has paid big dividends in the reduction of casualties among ordinary Iraqis, and elevates their quality of life, security, and ability to commence functioning in a more normal fashion.

Senator McCain criticized the former Secretary of Defense for his long pursuit of a failed strategy, and it appears that Senator McCain was quite correct in his demand for a better solution. The addition of Army and Marine divisions in 2008-2009 will also be helpful in bulking up America' war-fighting abilities.

Thankfully, the U.S. Army and Marines comment that the Iraqi Army is fighting much better. This is the third year that they have been in training and in combat. That makes it possible for U.S. forces to make some force reductions in the future, as Iraqi combat capability improves.

Iran continues to embark on some very dangerous courses. Their "nut-case" leader continues to threaten the extermination of Israel, and a demand for nuclear facilities for electric power. An odd combination for a country who lives on top of one of the major oil pools in the world, and a near "death wish" when speaking of exterminating Israel. It is well known that Israel has the capability to bomb Iran back to the stone age. The September 6, 2007 air strike by Israel against targets in far eastern Syria (near the Iranian border) was probably "a shot across the bow" of the nutty Iranian president. History tells us that the world perceived Hitler, Stalin, and Mao as "nut cases" as well, but it was the force of arms, and only the force of arms that reigned Hitler, Stalin, and Mao in -- not complaints to the United Nations.

FP: Let’s get back to the lawsuit. In terms of the damage it has done, what can our readers who want to help do?

Day: Our readers need to support the Vietnam Veterans Legacy Foundation in the investigation of the Left. We have proved that Kerry lied about the conduct of our soldiers. It is no accident that Kerry is raising money for a defense fund. A multi-millionaire Senator needs a defense fund? Set up by public contributions??

We have learned that no leftie involved in the Kerry 1970 speech. (i.e. Kerry, Fonda, Hayden, or VVAW members) were ever put under oath in their statements about Vietnam. We now have verified testimony where they admit lying about war crimes in Vietnam. Can you believe it? Never under oath. Lie, exaggerate at will. We can now prove that the Left lied us out of the war.

They has put us into about a quarter of a million dollars in debt. They do not want us to tell what we have learned. How no one ever testified under oath. How the KGB and Jane Fonda were involved in the anti-war movement. We need financial help. No amount is too small. The facts we have gathered must be published. We need the support of our patriots and warriors from the past. Please help.

FP: Bud Day, thank you for joining us today.

Day: Thank you Jamie.
