I would like to know how one would obtain this MOS. Do you train as an 0311 first? (I believe I read this somewhere). Also is this MOS offered on the east coast since the training is at SOI west? and if it is how do you request this MOS if you do have to train as an 0311 first? Thanks for any help you can give.

I would say yes. That you would go to SOI first then to your LAV MOS school. But, a Marine of today can give you better scoop.

i served with the 2nd LAR, and yes, it is based at Camp Lejune. anyway, as far as the training as an 0311? I don't think so. at least, not that I remember. and you can bet your butt, none of the drivers or guners ever ACTED like an 0311 ( that being a scout, in LAR) mostly they just sat in the vehicles:)

Hard Jedi...You didn't go to SOI or MCT prior to your MOS school?

Actually Im at SOI (giger) right now, and the mos 0313 no longer exists, you have to get attached to an LAR, which is basically luck of the draw because from what Ive been told they attach us to boat companys, helo companys, line etc. based on the needs of the corps. Also the 0321 indoc is no longer given here, you have to be contract or request it in the fleet.

yes, i went to MCT and then SOI as an 0311. I was a Scout, in LAR, ( an 0311) and really Jordan? no more 0313? wow. that seems wird, then when do the guys train? I find it wierd that they would just send guys to the fleet not knowing how to drive the LAV25 without any training. and there was never an 0313 oprion for people at gieger, itwas always only at pendelton that they trained

not too sure, like I wanted to be attached to an lar but when I asked thats just what they told me. I think the 0313 might have been switched to a motor-t mos or one of its own, all I know is that its not an option for the grunts.

well, who knows then? All the 0311's i knew in LAR were just stuck there after SOI. at least, the ones as scouts, like i said, the ones that were drivers or gunners went to LAV school. the way I eneded up there, was one day, I got some orders, and away i went LOL

Somebody has to drive the things- the cpp.usmc.mil site talks about a LAV crewman course and says it is open to recent graduates of SOI- the course is held 6 times per year. But, they don't list the 0313 course with the ITB information.

Pretty odd that nobody had heard this was happening until now. Thanks Jordan!

You can stay in that MOS for the full 20 since it is becoming a career MOS like 0321 RECON.

Before you had to move out of LAR or RECON when you got to 0369 and move to Victor units if you have not served in them.

I was with 3d LAR - 29 Palms, Cali as a 0341 ( Bravo, Charlie and Alpha) and attached to 1st LAR (Charlie) Camp Pendleton.

Our drivers ( 3d LAR Bravo - WPNS Plt) were TOW and 81mm qualified. They did 0311 stuff like the rest of us.

Oh yes you are trained as a 0311 at ITB then changed to 0313 at LAR MOS school.
