New bridge to honor soldier killed in Iraq
Wednesday, October 17, 2007

A formal dedication ceremony will be held Nov. 10 in Grove City at the new Staff Sgt. Shawn A. Graham Veterans Memorial Bridge, so named in April by the Mercer County commissioners to honor the fallen soldier who was killed in Iraq.

The 10 a.m. ceremony where the former Chestnut Street Bridge once stood will include several speakers, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and an appearance by the Patriot Guard Riders, a national group that attends memorial functions in respect of fallen service personnel, their families, and their communities.

Sgt. Graham was a 1989 graduate of Grove City Area High School. He left the area to join the Marines and was killed in Iraq while serving with the Army National Guard 124th Cavalry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division.

The bridge will open for traffic in the middle of next month.
