Marine:
Parris Island and San Diego;
made me who I am today.
Drill Instructors in my face;
will I be able to last?
Thousands have come before me;
echoes from the past.
From Gudalcanal to Tarawa;
Khe Sahn and Da Nang.
We raised the flag on Suribachi;
and guard embassies.
We have gone into Kuwait and Iraq;
always going forward and never looking back.
We came together in 1775 ready to attack;
We sent the Germans running in World War One.
We are always on the job;
doing what needs to be done.
We give out toys at Christmas;
so children won't go without.
We wear our dress blues proudly;
heck yeah, we stand out.
Some people refer to us as jarheads, killers:
using words obscene.
No matter what they call us;
we are still Marines.
We stand ready to do the job;
whatever that may be.
From fighting in the deset;
or honoring a fallen comrade of many aged years.
We'll be there for his family,
to help comfort the tears.
Some marvel at these acts of selflessness;
as if they were something new.
I learned them in bootcamp;
from the hell the drill instructors put me through.
Don't use fancy words to describe what we do;
it won't do you any good.
We're Marines, and that's all you need to know.
So when the years have passed;
and they lay my body low.
Don't give me a eulogy or a fancy solliloqui;
I'm a United States Marine;
and that's always who I'll be.
Semper Fi to my brothers and sisters;
Signed: A fellow Marine
