LAKELAND, Fla. — Marcus Edward Joseph MacRae, 79, son of the late Verna Gascon MacRae and Marcus Francis MacRae of Escanaba, passed away on Aug. 3, 2007, due to complications of cardiovascular disease.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Maryon, of Lakeland, Fla.; sisters, Mary Jenkin (and husband Tom), of Auburndale, Fla.; Bonnie Schmitz of Milwaukee; brothers, Elwyn MacRae (and wife Angie), of Glendale Heights, Ill. and Merton MacRae, Palmetto, Fla.

He was the beloved brother-in-law of Dr. Philip Morgan of Huntington Beach, Calif. and Robert Morgan, Vancouver, B.C.

A retired geologist, he graduated from Michigan Technological University. Mr. McRae was the director of geology for United Nuclear Corp. for 20 years. He served the State of New Mexico for 15 years as an environmental specialist. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He had a lifelong passion for flying, and owned several planes. An outdoor man, he reveled in hunting and fishing. An avid reader, he read everything Winston Churchill ever wrote. Marcus was a lovely man, full of wit and humor, and life is much poorer without him.
