OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Wounded Warrior Battalion-West is scheduled to stand up Aug. 1 at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

The 9 a.m. activation ceremony will be held at the football field by the Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital.

The hospital grounds include a building that’s home to the Wounded Warrior Barracks, which opened last year and has served as the living space for wounded Marines and sailors as they recuperate from their injuries.

The battalion will serve as the West Coast’s unit under the Wounded Warrior Regiment, which the Corps formed in April to serve as a parent unit for wounded Marines and sailors continuing their medical care and rehabilitation after leaving the hospital or as they transition out of the service.

The Quantico, Va.-based regiment is commanded by Col. Gregory Boyle. Wounded Warrior Battalion-East was established at Camp Lejeune, N.C., on June 30.
