I was just wondering if any Marines who graduated from MCRD SD could tell me about how they do things there. I was there 2 weeks ago and a 1st sgt. told me a lot but I think he was making it seem less hard so I would join. I'm going to join anyways so can someone tell me how it really is there?
Thanks

It was really nice. Room service was terrific. We had bicycles to go to and from. It's been a while, but the main thing I remember were these 3 really nice men who tended to my every need. I will never forget those guys! Thank you SDI SSGT Brown and DI's SSGT Moultrie and SGT Rice. Now get on your face poolee and give us 50! If it was easy it wouldn't be worth having!

Excuse me...I mean potential future poolee!

wow you got room service too SGT holly crap i thought that was just my company and you guys got cheated we got those rascal things to go places on they phased out the bicycles they said those took to much effort to use. now as for your question about how they do things there you have to be more specific in your questions.

well like i said, a 1st sgt. showed me around the Deopt so i know what it looks like.I'm wondering what training is like. I went to PI 2 summers ago but MCRD SD has to go to Pendleton for some stuff so I'm wondering what they do at the Depot and what they do at Pendleton.

Tyson

out of all the stuff the 1st sgt talked about i'm surprised he didn't go into that with you, well you do all of your drill and what not on the depo but all your field stuff, and rifle range is at pendleton

Too funny..you know what, its the same in PI..we had three really groovy cats that tended to our every need as well. At times it seemed as if they were kinda angry and raised their voices from time to time. I didn't understand where their anger was coming from however. One may even say they were mean.

Serioulsy James, its not a picnic as you know. Have you seen the documentary, "Ears open, eyeball click"? Its very right on, and only a few years old. It was filmed at MCRDSD.

If you want to see some good stuff watch it my friend, its about as real as it gets on bootcamp. Those Drill instructors are some bad @ss guys...

You can buy it online but it runs the Documentary Channel I think. I just TVO'd it the other day, but first watched it several months ago.

James, if you have it then you have a pretty good idea on what bootcamp will be like, at least IMO its pretty dang close.

Nothing will prepare you for actually being there however. Just remember that the Drill Instructors are there to weed the non hackers from our exclusive little club. Not everyone can be Marines and we want to make sure only the best become Marines.

Its a title we carry for the rest of our lives, and its not easy to earn that title...if it were easy then we wouldn't be Marines, we would be Army, Navy or Air Force.

I'm not being sarcastic...MCRD SD is pretty nice. I missed it when we were up north at Camp Pendleton. MCRD SD is such a beautiful depot. The weather is perfect year round, the chow is pretty good too, no joke. Bootcamp only sucks during First Phase, after that it's a walk in the park.

I've never been to MCRDSD but I have been to San Diego and as you know, SD has PERFECT weather year round...great place.

Yea 1st phase is a complete mind game, yelling, screaming, etc. Not so sure if it was a "walk in the park" during 2/3 phase, but it did settle down a bit.

Compare SD to PI, we are trained pretty much the same and each area has its good points and bad points, the humps must suck. Sand fleas, sand and humidity suck, etc. We are all Marines however, and thats all that matters.

Tyson
07-07-07, 10:16 AM
well said sgt. and yes all 1'st phase is, is a huge mind ****, 2'nd and 3'rd it's not that is gets better its that you just get use to it. as to comparing sd to pi i haven't been to pi but i am out here in nc now and i understand the sand fleas that eveyone talks about now, and in sd the humps were no joke, but not all that hard like i said its all a mind game, just keep that in mind its a war of witts just try to win that battle and you will be fine...

How they do things ? they make Marines. Everyday is differant, it is all fun and games. The DIs come up with wierd things to do and you don't know what is going to happen next. Every Platoon is differant and differant things happen so you can't tell what will go on in the Platoon you might be in. Each DI is differant and they all like to play their own games. The classes are the same, the PFT, the Range and Swim qual. The Drill, marching is the same but each DI has his own ideas on how to give yells to the marching. Everyone is differant, that is why differant things happen and make the DIs do differant things. Then something might happen like accidents or other things in each and every Platoon. That is why nobody can say what goes on or what will happen in Boot Camp while you are there. You just have to go and earn the Title Marine like all the rest of the Marines have done in the past.

Once a Marine, Always a Marine

Hey Pfc. Tyson I saw the list of the units deploying this fall. 23,000 are heading out to the sandbox later. Which unit are you with>

Also, I got Cherokee, Muskogee indian traits. Which tribe you belong too?

SD is a pretty place - I was looking at Jim's pics yesterday and saw one of a Marine sitting on this really pretty tile wall at SD with the Palm trees all around. The signs at PI are STILL red with gold letters - they look like they've been spray painted.

its a lot warmer than milwaukee.

Well they have washer machines but you only wash your PT clothes in it. rest youre on the wash racks each day differs and how much you get thrashed depends on your platoon and how you guys cooperate.

Alot of recruits yell and get frustrated during games the DI's play some you can even watch their clits swell and get all huffy puffy.. Still its bootcamp and its not only what you make of it but how you come together with your platoon.

boot camp my freind, is good stuff.. first 2 weeks are probably the hardest.. then you just adapt.. you grow.. they mold you.. your probably will take a beating.. a hell of a beating.. but trust us.. your body can do way more than you think you can.. and when you are there.. dont think,, just do. do as your told, quickly.. speed and intensity... speed and intensity.. msg me on aim if youd like "ahtoetoe".. i went to mcrdsd not too long ago.. we can chat about it if youd like.. if you have questions feel free to ask.. i love this organization i joined. i take pride in it and enjoy talking about it.. but dont expect me to sugarcoat things.. oorah for the Corps!

I went to PI 2 summers ago but MCRD SD has to go to Pendleton for some stuff so I'm wondering what they do at the Depot and what they do at Pendleton.Shoppin around lookin for the best deal eh? Camp Pendleton, a former cow/calf operation is known to old time Californio Hacendados and Vaqueros as "Rancho Santa Margarita y Las Flores" and is now a Govt. spread where Marines hump and shoot and hump.
