Freedom is the power to determine action without restraint.
It's also the right to enjoy all the privileges or special rights of citizenship in a community, according to just a few of the 17 definitions listed for freedom at www.dictionary.com.
But what do Onslow County residents think freedom means?
They have different views, but most agree that Americans have more freedom in their everyday lives than many others around the world.
From making their own decisions to the ability to marry freely, locals said many take their freedoms for granted.
Even so, some said a few American freedoms were being threatened today.
Here's what some local residents had to say about freedom.
