I've heard of Marines that just guard Navy ships, would they be 8151, or did I just hear wrong?

I just thought they were MP's (Military Police) that served as security on vessels but im not certain of that. I didn't know there is an MOS that is just "Guard" good question.

Bro, fill out more of your profile. It's probably too late for you to re-up, though.

Done updating profile.
I'm 38 and i believe the regs are that i can only reenlist if i'm young enough to still retire before 65
i'm 38 now, served 4 years so that would put me at retiring at 64

I'll be one old Jarhead by then

no more 2531's? field radio operators?.... at least my other mos is there... 6123...Probably because technology is such that you don't need a huge radio to contact HQ and everyone can have their own radio.

NO more big radios? Hell even in the Infantry we still had 1 guy on every patrol who had to carry the big radio in order to contact HQ. Sure alot of us had small personal radios but they range was very limited.

Them damn radios that were used in Vietnam were some of the worst ever made. Hell they could talk to the men on the moon but we had trouble most of the time talking at the most 1 mile.

Lol, i guess things have not improved too much then. We still have large(although not as alrge as vietnam radios) radios which cant seem to get a signal 1 click out

As you can see, I'm just a poolee who knows nothing, but I would think that the technology has progressed in the past few decades enough to make them obsolete.

Hell as a Marine i would think that technology could have made huge heavy radios obsolete but thats what you get for thinking now isnt it. The Prc-119a is still too damn large considering the technology available these days and it still doesnt work worth a fu#* The PRC-119F is about half the size and onewould think that it was still too big considering my cellphone gets reception in Iraq during a Foot Patrol in the middle of some farm. And the 199F doesnt work any better than its big brother. There is a PRC-148 whish is the size of a big walki-talki and can do everything the other radios can do excpet its range is even shorter and also doesnt always work. Its crazy, we walk past Iraqis talkin on cellphones but our huge expensive military green radio cant talk to someone 2 clicks away

HABU, radio operators are still there. They changed the number right after I got out. It went from 2531 to 0621. My primary MOS was 2532 and that is now 0622 and 0623. Amazing, but it appears I have three MOS's now.

you're a toad, don't talk about stuff you don't know even if you think it's helpful... it'll keep you out of trouble... trust me on this.

also there are prc-119 and prc 148... all of which have sofisticated encryption in them that requires them to be slaved to a master and change frequency every time it's keyed... so yeah, the 148 breaks to damn easy so everyone uses the 119... or they figured out how to work the 148's so they don't break... what do I know? I just use the ones in the HMMWVs.

you ever hear of the Avenger system? well that's surface to air, and enlisted fire that... why would an officer have anything to do with that? do we need an education to make us qualified?

The Command and Control of the Hawk is controled by Officers due to the gravity of use and also why you hear of very few missels launched since once fired target is dead be it a civilien air liner or a semi truck please read up on your info or at least have knowledge on the topic before posting it is used as a defensive weapon and not to be taken lightly.

The HAWK Missile was a surface to air Homing All the Way Killer (no semi-trucks although one of my buddies claims he could lock on the radiator fan of a duece and a half. He was a BCC rat. That's a Fire Control Technician.). Fired by enlisted but fire control was the responsibility of the duty officer in the BCC (Battery Control Central). Duty officer said fire and enlisted man physically pushed the button.

There was a kill button. Good thing too because, during tracking exercises, we had a launcher malfunction as the result of an electrical storm a couple of days beforehand and the sucker self launched two birds from Bravo Battery, 1st LAAM Bn on Monkey Mountian, Da Nang Viet Nam in about April of 1966. The first missile was out of boost before they could hit the destruct button but they were quicker with the second bird and got it before it got out of boost. I'm sure the flight crew of the Air Italia airliner we were locked onto were relieved there was a destruct button.

When I got out of CW Radar school at Ft. Bliss, my MOS was 2212. In about January of 1965 it was changed to 5912. I was responsible for repairing the CW Acquisition Radar and the High Power Illuminator. 5911 Pulse Radar Technician was responsible for the ROR Range Only Radar and the Pulse Acquisition Radar. 5913 was responsible for the BCC and IFF box.

I doubt any of this interests anyone but I hate to see disinformation floating around.
