The skies around Beaufort's air station could be quieter and Marine recruits
at Parris Island may be safer if a bill recently passed by the U.S. House of
Representatives passes the Senate.

The bill would provide $13.7 million to the Marine Corps Air Station
Beaufort for a building to test and perform maintenance on F/A-18s. The
building would dampen the sound of the noisy jet engines for those living
nearby or passing the air station.

The bill would also provide more than $7.4 million to the Marine Corps
Recruit Depot on Parris Island for a facility to train recruits indoors
during severe weather. An extra $3,080,000 would go to the Recruit Depot to
expand classroom space.

"The military investment in the Second District is further proof that South
Carolina continues to play an important and crucial role in the defense of
our nation, and will for years and years to come," said U.S. Rep. Joe
Wilson. "The new constructions projects will create facilities to train our
forces for the War Against Terrorism and these projects will benefit our
communities by creating jobs and spurring our local economy."
