Lejeune Marine succumbs to injuries
NEWS RELEASE
A Camp Lejeune Marine died Tuesday while conducting combat operations in Iraq.
Lance Cpl. Johnathan E. Kirk, 25, of Belhaven, died Thursday as a result of injuries sustained on April 23 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to Company C, 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).
Kirk joined the Marine Corps Jan. 17, 2006, and was trained as a combat engineer. He joined 2nd CEB on July 20 and was promoted to the rank of lance corporal on Mar. 1. His decorations include the Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
