CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa - A $1,000 reward is being offered for information concerning the brutal beating of a 20-year-old Marine in an Okinawa City club district March 31.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service on Thursday announced the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the attackers. Their investigators have been working closely with Okinawa prefectural police since the mugging was reported.

According to police, three men attacked the Marine sometime after midnight as he was walking alone in an alley adjacent to a parking area by Ocean View Night Club, near the intersection of Gate Two Street and Highway 330 in Chuo district of Okinawa City. The victim said his attackers appeared to be in their mid-20s and wore dark-colored clothing.

He told police he was pummeled until he lost consciousness. When he awoke about five hours later he realized a wallet containing about $65 and his cellular phone were missing. He reported the crime when he returned to his base and was treated for bruises and cuts to his head, chest and face.

According to the NCIS announcement, the attack could have occurred any time between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.

People with information should contact the NCIS office on Camp Foster at 645-0215. Caller anonymity will be maintained, the announcement stated.
