Conway: Enforce PT, appearance standards

Commanders must crack down on the physical fitness and personal appearance of their Marines, according to a Corps-wide message released Tuesday.
“All commanders are directed to place necessary emphasis on the fundamental Marine Corps traits of personal appearance, conformance to standards and physical fitness” because the appearance of Marines “is an outward manifestation of our ethos,” according to MarAdmin 259/07.
The announcement came as a result of an executive off-site meeting during which Commandant Gen. James Conway told the Corps’ general officers that Marines need to tighten up their physical fitness and personal appearances, said Lt. Col. Kristi Vangorder, head of the training section at Training and Education Command in Quantico, Va.
