This is from the Wild Weasel Net but needs to be seen in the CASBar, as
well as my many other friends. Bear Wilson, is Tom Wilson, my friend and
fellow River Rat, who is the author of many books on the Vietnam air war.

I am not proud or anything, but this was the Easter message we received from
my daughter, Lili Diane, who happens to be a USAF TSgt (Personnel) at Camp
Victory, Iraq on a 90 day rotation.

Good Morning and Happy Easter!
This morning I walked to work listening to voices raised in song as
the Easter Service was held at on the Palace Patio. It's supposed to
rain today, so it's overcast, with the sun just slightly peeking from
the clouds.
Last night I was approached to eat dinner with a Congressman from
Nebraska. I explained that I had never lived there, but had taught a
course for a week at offutt AFB. The Major smiled and said that woud do.
His name is Rep Adrian Smith and a very personable fellow, which of
course is why he is a politician. He wanted to know how I felt about
being out here. I just kind of stopped with my fork in the air and
asked him why he was here. He replied to see what the troops were
experiencing. He had told me he was going to the field where the
Marines the following day. I said "Sir, ask them, they are living the
war, we are just supporting it from here." He asked if he should get
them away from their supervisors so they could talk openly. I laughed
and said" Sir, I have never met a Marine that when asked a straight
question, won't give you a straight answer." Overall it went well,
but I did express my feeling regarding their fighting in DC. How can
you expect us to make headway when you all keep talking about pulling
out and then want to give a timetable to the bad guys of when we do
it? He said that he was a Republican and that he was against the
referendum. Like I said he seemed well meaning, but he was talking to
the wrong person, I don't have to make a decision of whether to shoot
or not, that is made by the guys outside the wire and they have
voices that need to be heard. He asked me what I thought he could do
to help. I was as honest as I could be, I nodded towards a Colonel in
an Army uniform and said listen to what they are saying and don't
second guess them. They know what they are doing and honestly know
how to get the job done, but you can't tie their hands from
accomplishing the job.
Did he hear me, probably not, but just maybe he will ask the right
questions of those Marines and go back with a better idea of what to
do and a face of who he is effecting when he makes his votes in DC.
Needless to say, the last 24 hours has been interesting.
Well I better go,
Love you all
Lili Diane
