Commissaries get revamped Web site

Relying heavily on customer input, Defense Commimssary Agency officials have produced a new, meatier Web site.

Shoppers’ favorite features are more prominent on the front page, and are easier to find through drop-down menus at the top of www.commissaries.com.

When asked in a recent customer satisfaction survey about what they want to see on the Web site, shoppers’ top three requests were for sales information, coupons and general commissary news, Defense Commissary Agency Director Patrick Nixon said in a statement announcing the redesign.

Advertising restrictions prohibit the commissary agency from listing prices, but under the “savings aisle” under the “shopping” link, customers can find out what’s on sale, and the percentage savings that those sale prices represent off the regular commissary price. Customers can download coupons from the links page and can download a list of all items on sale at their local commissary.

As before, customers can find information about store locations, including hours and contact information. Officials are planning more features for the Web site, such as a more interactive health and wellness section and such features as “Ask the Dietitian.” Down the road, the site also will put more emphasis on recipes.
