Well,

Origionally I have been wanting to go into the Infantry Reserve's while going to my city college (Santa Barbara City College). I have been talking to my recruiter and he says there is a Weapons Co. down south from there that I could be a part of. Lately I have been talking to my friend who is in FAST co. and returning soon from Cuba. I got into talking to him and it seems like the thing I want to do. I have heard that you can get a SF contract and go for FAST but not everybody gets in.

My question is this. Is it possible to go to college and after my 6 years of Active Drill is up can I re-enlist as an Active Duty Marine and try for FAST? Does any Marines or Poolees have any experience with FAST. Also I have been considering skipping the college part and going active into FAST if possible. Is any of this possible or am I way to over my head right now? I also want to know what you guys recommend doing?

Thanks

I have a buddy who was a weekend warrior and he tried to go AD. It was very hard for him he had to go to boards and jump a lot of hoops plus he lost a rank and some time in service.

To answer your question, yes, it is possible but it's not easy to move. If you are wanting to do college and still be enlisted and not commsioned. It would be easier to simply enlist AD and continue your college while getting tuition assistance.

ok thank you. What about if I wanted to go the officer route after my reserve contract? Or is it the same idea?

that im not sure about. There is a program called the MECEP program allowing for an enlisted to become commisioned. I'm sure there are other programs too and have known a few people my adjutant was prior enlisted.

Here is a link for you.

It is not uncommon for reserve Marines to be working at being an officer. If you are selected, you will go to OCS after your junior year in college, and then TBS after you graduate. It is a totally different process, you will be selected just as any other potential officer would be, except they will have some Marine history on you. So, don't screw up, be a PT stud, and do everything you can to be the best possible Marine.
