I'm a Canadian and I know theres threads about non US citizens joining the Marine corps but My question is that if your a Canadian is it deferent? It's no secret that Americans and Canadians are VERY close and that Americans have joined the CF since WW2 as us canuks joined the U.S.

I'm also talking about visas etc. I know a guy who wanted to join the Navy seals and they sent him off to Chicago for something (not sure what) without non of that "You need to be a permanent resident". Sorry but I'm confused with all this because my neighbor was a Marine and had NO trouble joining.

Thanks.

I don't know, call a recruiter and ask. I do know a friend of mine from Canada joined just fine. But, his dad was a Canadian Air Force officer assigned to a base in the US, so that may have helped him.

To speak to a recruiter would I have to call 1-800-MARINES?

Thank you.

That would do it. Or you could call the office of the recruiter that is closest to where you are at in Canada.

That's a little problem as well... There are no U.S Marine Corps recruiters where I live (Montreal, Quebec). Do I call and just go from there? Don't mean to ask so many questions but it's been my dream to serve in the United States Marine Corps since I was 8-9.. I want it so bad I can taste it. I'm sure you can relate to that.

Welcome to Leatherneck. During my time on recruiting duty in Buffalo New York we put a lot of Candians in the Corps. I would help if one of your parents were American but not really criteria to join. You will need to get all of the documentations needed to show that you will become a US citizen, i.e., Social Security Card, INS 151 (green card). A recruiter would be the best way to I agree.

Good luck and hopefully when you get qualified you will become a United States Marine.

I know there aren't any recruiters in Montreal. I was thinking more like Montpelier or whatever US city is closest to you. The Consulate is an excellent idea that I had not thought of.

Regardless, GySgtRet knows his stuff and wouldn't steer you wrong.

Take a look and see which Recruiting Station is near to your part of Montreal.

That is exactly the place or even Oswego New Your. Or the US side of Niagra Falls. If this youngman is in Montreal then they aren't too far for getting things going. The answer to the imigration would best be answered at the consulate though.

How bout it eh wing?

During Vietnam it was said that "Canada sent us there best, we sent Canada our worst" I belive that very much.

Yup, lets see how motivated he is.

I'd march to those places on foot in full gear with a broken leg while singing Marine corps cadences if that's what it takes.

And Thank you all very much. I have relatives who go to the states so maybe next time I'll hitch a ride and check out some recruiters.

Again thanks.

There's a man in our Veterans group that did exactly that, without the broken leg of course. There are many stories of Natives canoeing for a week to go enlist.

This must have been some time ago then? I was told you can't just walk in there and say "I want to be a Marine.. wheres the papers" and boom they send you off.

Circa World War II, after they served a tour with the Canadian Forces. You get the point though that it still applies today.
