I signed up for 6x2 reserve. I got 95 on my ASVAB so my recruiter told I can pick any job i wanted. I initially wanted to be part of a tank crew but there is no base around where I live with tanks (NYC). So in MEPS right after the physical, I found out that reserves dont get to choose anything, but only whats available. There wasnt time to pick when I was in MEPS so they just gave me Supply Admin. and Operations. My recruiter told me that I can change it later on so I went ahead and signed the paper. One week later, I'm in the office and I was given a list of available MOS, but to tell the truth I didnt like any of those jobs. I told him I dont want to be in an office such as supply admin job and he recommanded MOS 0651, Info System Specialist. I have absolutely no idea what that is except it has something to do with communications. It is also not listed in about.com. Can someone please explain this MOS to me?

Data Geek in Communications. And, with the advent of NMCI, the "Navy Marine Corps Intranet", they don't get to do much but change printer cartridges.

What are the units that are close to you?

I was told that I'm getting stationed either in Garden City or Brooklyn depending on the MOS I choose. As I stated before, I changed MOS so I dont really know anymore. This other Marine that retired told me all 06xx are going to be stationed in Brooklyn so I assume its going to be Brooklyn.

You'll be stationed wherever they need u, if they need u at 2/25 ull be there n if they need u at 6th comm ull be there but pretty much ur mos is still gunna be in and office, and u probably will be doin some BORING ****, but 2/25 and 6th comm has really good people in it, only thing bout 6th comm is their admin is lazy as hell!

So its still office work? So how does system info. specialists compare to supply administration and operations? Also once you become a marine is it possible to change your MOS? If so can you change it right away or do you have to reenlist first before you pick your MOS?

Actually
You'll be trained in one of the most marketable skills in the world today. All branches of the service are constantly looking for ways to keep their computer specialists in service and often offer large re-enlistment bonus's. You made a good choice. The 2/25th reserves is the sister unit to 5th Marines which is the most decorated unit in the M.C. Even as a reservist you stand a good chance of seeing the world.

Bulkyker is correct. My comm geeks were some of the baddest Marines I had the pleasure to know.

They showed this ground pounder about computer skills that I need on the CG staff.

Most when they get out, still work for the Corps as civies doing the same job but more money and no field day and PT involved.

When I was on my 6th Fuji deployment, I seen Marines with 2/25 81s there and had a blast talking about home.

There was a Major I talked to and knew my buddy who was a Gunny in NYC.

The old MOS designation was 4066 Computer specialist
