On my enlistment contract I choose Intel, however I realized that under "fields of option" it says 0200 and 2600. Now, the entry level position for 0200 is an intel specialist (this is what i really want to do). My question to you Marines, respectively, is will i get an option to choose my field?? or will i be put in either one?

If you only want 0200 you need to make the contract say that. They will select from all the choices in your contract and place you where the Corps needs you. That said, even with and field guaranteed you won't know what the last two number are until they're assigned. I don't know about 0200, but I would guess there is at least one other possible MOS they could put on a new guy.

For that matter, 2600 is intel as well, just a different (and in my opinion more interesting) type of intel. Just talk to your recruiter about the issue and he'll get you fixed up.

From my own research I learned that the only entry level mos for an 0200 is an 0231 (the one that I want) unless of course your security clearance is rejected...but thats another story and I'm not concerned with that. As long as I can get that "2600" portion out of my contract then im happy.

irizavrima, go see your recruiter and tell him that the 2600 is a no go, and hope that there is a way he can get it to just 0200 then. But, I would look into the 2600 stuff first, some of it is pretty cool stuff.

You cannot remove the 2600 part of the contract, you will be one or the other depending on the needs of the Corps, that's just the way that it works. You really should have been told this when you signed the contract, didn't you read it before you signed it?

You ought to be able to remove the 2600 field. Especially if you haven't taken and passed the DLAB. And at least when I enlisted, the 2600 contract was for 5 years because you spend so much time in MOS schools. Read everything very carefully. I doubt they could put you in on a 4-year 2600 field contract.

it is my understanding that to even be in the 2600 field you need to pass the DLAB prior to enlistment....i have not done this. also you do not need a TS clearance for SIGINT 2600 field...this is the biggest reason im concerned. one of the reasons i signed up for intel was to get that TS clearance and if im put in 2600 i know i wont get it.

No, a top secret clearance is ABSOLUTELY required for the 2600 field. You can not go to the second stage (for linguists) of MOS training without it. I'm not familiar with 2621 training but I know for sure it too happens in a SCIF (sensitive comparted information facility) which requires a TS clearance to work in.

This link contain the MOS manual. It shows all the requirements for every MOS. http://www.tecom.usmc.mil/gtb/tds/MCBUL_1200.pdf

Thank you for your help so far, it is helping me paint a picture of my future (that is when I make it happen and EARN the Title) I will never give up and always strive to learn as much as I can. However, it is my understanding that with an intel contract that if i DO NOT take the DLAB before my projected ship date that I can not be a 2600 SIGINT Marine. My intention is to be an 0231 intel specialist...the only entry level MOS for the 0200 field. One Marine has informed me that if I'm asked to take the DLAB in Recruit Training that I should intentionally fail it If I want to get 0200. Is this true? If not to what extent??...and no im not a quiter...the only reason i would want to fail the DLAB in the first place is to ensure that I have more control over my future by being assigned 0200 and not 2600!!

I say... just do a lousy job on the DLAB. I was an 0231 and I'm pretty sure the 2600 part was on my contract when I signed up. I suppose it comes down to how badly they need linguists!

Now that I'm a Marine I'll go ahead and answer my own question for others to read. If your intel you get pulled aside for special screening. I simply asked if there were any 0231 spots available and they alloted the spot for me. The screening was around T-14.
