K.W., a Denver reader, regarding the Pentagon's failure to equip Marines in Iraq with helmet upgrades to protect against bomb blasts, writes:
"It's unbelievable that a bar has to have a fund-raising block party to buy helmets for our Marines. I remember a bumper sticker that read something like: 'Imagine when schools are funded and the Air Force has to have a bake sale.' Somebody should have a bake sale for our soldiers, just to drive home the point."
You are referring to recent efforts by QT readers to raise funds for Operation Helmet, www.operation-helmet .org.
More than $23,500 has been raised.
This means that more than 330 Marines in Iraq soon will have better helmets.
So thanks to all.
But there are still many Marines waiting.
