What part of intelligence gets out in the field more often than others. For example on missions with frontline troops or is there some type of SOC intel unit? Any insight to intelligenge and what they do would be great?

Thanks

Can't speak to the 0200 field, but in the 2600 Signals Intel field we deployed quite a bit. There is a Radio Recon Platoon at each Radio Battalion as well. I spent 3 consecutive winters right up on the DMZ of Korea up in the mountains. And the Radio Battalions deploy like any other unit and sit right up on the lines with their gear (read "Pop A Yellow Smoke" by Charles Truitt to see what about 1st Radio in Vietnam) You can also be stationed in more strategic (as opposed to tactical field stuff) situations at the Marine Cryptologic Support Bn companies, these are located all over the world, usually with the Navy Security Groups (although I know the Navy no longer calls them that).

Bottom line is there is no shortage of field opportunities in the 2600-field, a lot will depend on if you go to a Radio Battalion or not (no way of getting that guaranteed).

As far as what 2600s do, it is all about the signals (intercepting them and analyzing them and reporting on them) You also are considered Ground Electronics Warfare operators (ie: Jamming, net infiltration, etc.)
