Hello,

I am a reservist poolee, and my MOS is currently 0231. I am having second thoughts about it, thinking that I might go 0311 - I want a more hands on job. What do you all suggest? Any 0231's on here? I am afraid the job might be too computer based, and I'm thinking I'd rather be out in the field. What say you all?

THank you,

Chase

Is that a guaranteed that you are getting 0231 as a Reservist...Looks like you have to have some AD time prior to getting that MOS. Or jump through some big hoops.

Yes, 0231 is guaranteed. The way I understand it (of course I may be way wrong) is that 0211 is the only intel mos accomplished by a lateral move once you're in.

Is there an 0311 slot near you? If so, I would say go for it. Intel has its bonuses, but for "once a month" style training, the grunt life is great. I was with a TOW company in the reserves and drill was like a bunch of grown men playing "army" with real equipment. There were downsides, but going to the field was a blast. As an intel person, I am sure you won't get the same level of pure fun.

You may not get as much fun, but your contribution to the Corps and to the United States is immeasurable.

I took the 02 MCI course and there is some really interesting stuff in the Intel field. If you don't feel particularly suited for the job, then maybe it is not for you.

I say 03, but I am kinda partial...It has been a blast, plus as a Grunt you have a lot of other opportunities available to you.

Thanks for all the comments guys, after talking with my recruiter and thinking it over, I think I'm gonna stick with 0231 for now, and if I dont like it, I'm probably moving within the next two years so I could possibly transfer to an infantry unit somewhere else. Thanks again.
