NEW YORK(April 28, 2006) -- Marines from Marine Aerial Refueler Squadron 252 (VMGR-252) visited children of employees at Deloitte Touche of the Two World Financial Building during take our daughters and sons to work day, April 27, 2006.

The program, which sets the children in groups of nine and 10, 11 and 12, and 13 to 15 year olds, allows them to witness different aspects of the financial firm through different spoke persons of the company. According to Deloitte Touche firm director and coordinator of the program, Joseph Delaney, since the inception of the program in 1993, it has been a success.

However, in 2003 the program took new shape when a Marine reservist and member of the firm’s staff, SSgt. Dave Karnes, suggested the firm invite the Marines to participate in the event. The Marines quickly became the highlight of the program.

“The Marines are the best well received presentation of the program by far,” said Delaney. “They are great role models for our kids to see. They give our children something important that is missing in kids today and that is a sense of service to country.”

Many of the Marines expressed their gratitude to the children as they addressed the kids before leaving. Yet, the group of Marines said nothing was more gratifying than hearing the rousing, “hoorah,” the children used in response to their goodbyes.
