Basic Pay Charts for 2003 Online
All military servicemembers will see a minimum 4.1 percent increase in basic pay rates beginning January 1, 2003, with the highest increase being 9.5 percent for O-4's with less than two years of service.

Congress Nixes Abayas
A measure in the fiscal 2003 defense authorization act prohibits commanders or others in positions of military authority to "require or encourage" any U.S. servicemember "to wear the abaya garment or any part of the abaya garment while the member is in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."

DOD Developing Short-Term Enlistment Plan
Congress and the White House have given the Pentagon an outline to start work on a short-term enlistment program, which would let recruits commit to serving 15 months of active duty, after completing all basic and specialized or advanced training.
