Now, I know that I have no authority at all, and I rate no respect from any of you. But, I thought that maybe we should try this because I have seen a lot of poolees ask the same questions and get the same answers. Some Marines have seemed to get irritated over the reptition, also.

So, here is the plan. Each Poolee will ask his/her question, and one Marine will answer it. If that Marine gets the answer wrong (which is unusual) then another Marine may answer that same question. This will stop some of the clutter, repitition, and ignorance of some of the members. P{erhaps they may even decide to read through this thread to find an answer instead of asking it, and if so, it won't be a big deal.

The questions will be any kind, though they should not be personal. If the admins think that this is a good idea, I would appreciate it being "stickied" to the top of the forum.

Okay, now that I am done rambling, I will ask my question that was not asnwered last time and then open the floor for the others.

What can a recruit do in training to be a good squad leader or guide? I know that they get smoked if someone under their command does something wrong, but is there a way that the leaders can help the other recruits to make sure they don't screw up? Also, how does one become a leader during training, and a good one at that? Should I volunteer for everything, or just do my job and no more than my job?<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Just stay motivated and always , always give everything you can. Encourage your fellow recruits , and help the weak ones. Remember you are a team.

1st thing to memorize is not to call it basic training--at least that's what I've been told.

Here's a good place to start.

You know, except for the 'M16AS and M16A4 Characteristics', which I never had, ALL of that stuff becomes so entrained, you'll remember it for years to come.

And Brooklyn, give your post an edit. Methinks the Rifle Creed is the same as the 11 General Orders of a Sentry. Go with this link -

Looks like they added an 11th general order. Do you recall the "old" 11th general order???

I remember Steve but aint giving it up, thats for the young pups to recon for themselves lol. I gotta say this though, this thread has turned into a great representation of the Corps in that it contains raw leadership from the bottom, humbleness, passing of knowlege, over sight from above and most important comraderie and taking care of each others six's.

I can remember standing in line to get into the chow hall and all of us having to recite as much of the Navy and Marine Corps chain of command - you know "a seaman in the Navy is a pvt in the Marine Corps" thing. I remember one time I was hungry as hell cause we had been PTd to death that morning and since I'm only 5 3" I was always in the back of the platoon - by the time I got my chow the first few in were already getting up so I knew I didn't have much time to eat. I was sitting there eating as fast as I could (cause you know you didn't ever want to be the last one up) and about that time I heard in my ear "you're done recruit" - I couldn't do anything but look at her with my big brown puppy dog eyes and say "yes ma'am", throw what I had away and then run back up to her to tell her that I was the last one. After that I learned to eat faster............
