I no longer see that post or my reply.
We make more comments about a traitor aka hanio jane than a woman that served.
She was a woman of her times.
By military standards, she might not done things according to the UCMJ, smoke and drank.
But you had to do whatever.
To help you deal with the pain of seeing so much death.
Especially death of so many young Americans.
Later on her tour, she began to doubt WHY.
The WHY of it all especially all the deaths.
She wanted to protest against the war but not the warrior.
I could never see myself doing that.
But I never walked in her boots.
I can't judge her actions, that's for God.
We mourn her passing on 15th November.
We extend our sympathies to the husband and daughter that she left behind to mourn her passing.

"I am tired and sick of war,
It's glory is all moonshine,
It is only those who have never fired a shot,
Nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded,
Who will cry aloud for blood,
More vengeance,
More desolation,
War is HELL."
General William Tecumseh Sherman US Army

"Freedom
Those who take freedom for granted,
Would be dependent,
On those brave souls,
Who are willing to pay the price for it.
And the price of freedom,
Will be paid at times unexpected,
By heroes,
Who didn't know they were."

" Duty is the most sublime word in the English language.
You can never do more, you should never wish to do less."
~ Robert E. Lee writing to his son ~

"Excellence doesn't just happen.
It must be forged, tested and used.
It must be passed down.
And woven into the very fabric of our souls.
Until it becomes our nature."
~ General Charles C. Krulak ~
31st Commandment of the Marine Corps

"We all have choices to make in this life.
We all have responsibility to recognize our options.
And to choose the path which best suits.
What we believe we can and could accomplish,"
~ Charles "Chuck" D. McAtee ~

"To control the past,
Is to give meaning to the present,
And direction to the future."

I should have added that she is a remainder to us of her sisters in all the services and different MOS's that served in Vietnam.
They have been neglected for too long.

Thanks Drifter, I devour her book.
Home Before Morning in a day.
I await an inter-library loan of another book edited by Lynda Van Devanter... the groundbreaking work of poetry, Visions of War, Dreams of Peace: Writings of Women in the Vietnam War.
Below is a page on her passing by VVA.
