VA launches new Web site
By Karen Jowers
Times staff writer

For survivors of those who die on active duty, or of those who die after leaving the service, getting all the benefits to which they are entitled is not easy.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has launched a Web site aimed at trying to make it easier, with information on a wide range of benefits for surviving spouses, dependent children and dependent parents of deceased veterans and active-duty members. Survivors can click on either “Death in Service” or “Death after Service.”

Survivors of active-duty members will see, for example, information on VA benefits, as well as links to the military services’ casualty assistance branches; military quality-of-life resources, including Military OneSource online; the Social Security Administration’s benefits calculator; military relief societies; and other groups that offer support, such as the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS).
