REPORTING TO RECRUIT TRAINING

You will undergo recruit training at either Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), Parris Island, South Carolina or MCRD San Diego, California. This is dependent upon where you happen to reside. All females will train at Parris Island. You will be provided transportation to the recruit depot and arrive late in the evening or early in the morning. Upon arriving, you will be met by a representative from MCRD. Your orders will be processed and your luggage will be checked for things you should not have brought with you. You will complete paperwork so that a letter can be sent to your family, informing them of your safe arrival.

WHAT TO WEAR TO RECRUIT TRAINING

Males and females -- Casual trousers or jeans, running shoes, collared shirt and sweater or jacket (seasonal) are considered appropriate attire. Females need to remove all nail polish before their arrival. Uniform items will be issued on the day of your arrival. Your civilian clothes will be stored for the duration of recruit training. Bring no more with you than you can carry in a small athletic bag.

WHAT TO TAKE TO RECRUIT TRAINING

The most important thing to take to recruit training is a positive attitude. It is imperative that each recruit have certain documents upon arrival at recruit training. You must have your Social Security Card and your Recruiter's business card. Verify with your recruiter the other documents you will be required to take.

1. A minimum of clothing (what you are wearing).
2. Eye glasses, if worn; bring contact lenses only if you have no glasses.
3. Religious materials/medals (put on a long chain). For more details, check with your recruiter.
4. Prescription medication (3-4 days supply with doctors prescription).
5. A quality pair of running shoes (not for basketball or court shoes or cross trainers).
6. A small amount of cash (not to exceed $20). Upon arrival each recruit receives a debit card credited with $275. The $275 credit will be deducted from the pay you receive during recruit training. This card is for use in the Marine Corps Exchange.
7. Females can take the following items if desired:
a. Three pairs of skin-tone pantyhose.
b. One white or beige bra.
c. Six white athletic bras, which provide good support and comfort while running.
d. At least seven panties (white only).
e. Portable blow-dryer, curling iron, hotcomb.
f. Required items for hair care maintenance. See your recruiter for hair standards.

It is extremely important to note that the following items must not be taken to recruit training. Any item that is brought from the following list will be confiscated and either destroyed or shipped back home at your expense.

1. Any lethal or otherwise dangerous weapons, ammunition, knives, explosives, pyrotechnics or fireworks.
2. Any alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs.
3. Gambling devices.
4. Pornography of any type.
5. Any food products, tobacco products or chewing gum.

That list really helps. My recruiter left out some of those and I probably would have gotten yelled at even more if you hadn't posted that. Thanks Again!
