Posted in Memory of United States Marine Corps Sergeant John F. Michenfelder (1942-1945), Medically Retired from his beloved Corps after suffering a severe wound from a motar round on Iwo Jima in 1945, he died 14August2004. He was awarded the Naval Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart for his actions on Iwo. His other awards include the World War II victory Medal, the Asiatic- Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Campaign Medal and numerous local and state honors that he received in later years. He was awarded the Bronze Star long after his days of fighting in 1995, some fifty years late.

Rest in peace brother, it is because of men like you that I and others on this site were able to become the mne and women that we are. Thank you for your service. Now there is one more Marine guarding the Pearly Gates.
