I possess an 03 contract and want to attend BRC in the future. In order to attend MART do we have to screen for MART or do we simply volunteer and be sent there? If we have to screen for MART, what is the screening process?

Thank you.

You have to screen for MART. These are the requirements:

1) Must have at least 20/200 vision. (No, not 20/20....just 20/200 or better). 2) Must have normal color vision.
3) Must be eligible for a Secret-level security clearance. (Normally not a problem, as long as no past problems with the law).
4) A GT score of 105 or higher on the ASVAB test.
5) No moral waivers (again, for the Secret-level clearance).
6) Must achieve at least a 3rd-Class Swim-Qual in Boot Camp to go to MART (however, must earn a 1st-Class Swim-Qual during Phase 1 of BRC).

You will also need at least a 275 on the PFT. You'll "try out" for MART at SOI; if you pass the try out, you'll go on to MART.

Does the try out just consist of the PFT or is there a swim portion to the workout?

There is a swim portion. I don't know exactly what it entails. But there is a swim portion, and its geared towards above average swimmers.

When you say its geared towards above average swimmers, are you implying that its just there to evaluate the volunteers or it is a pass fail event?

What it means is you need to be an above average swimmer in order to have a chance to pass the swim eval - regardless of how they score it. Simple as that, no hidden agenda.

What difference does it make what at kind of swim. etc. RXM1056.? It's a test. So put your big boy britches on, and do the test. Pass or fail; simple as that.

This ^^^ It is scored, pass/fail, for time. You'll have to do things in the water under time constraints. I don't know the specifics; but you have to be a good swimmer.
