Hello Marines, this is my first post on here and not too sure on how this site works. I have a ship date but haven't got an MOS signed. I was interested in the MP and Corrections field. I was wondering if any of you on here had this MOS and can tell me their opinions on it. I know from reading online that Marines generally don't like MP's but im planning on a law enforcement career in the civilian world. Thanks in advance for all replies.

Welcome to the Forum.

What actual MOS are you interested in so the Marines that had that MOS can answer your question ?

Who said Marines don't like MP's ? There are alot of Marines here that were/are Mp's and alot of Marines that were/are LEOS in the civilian world !!!

BTW, square away your profile Now !!!

Yea I've used Google before. I came here to see if anyone had first had experience with the MOS.

I was an MP in the mid-1970s. Things have changed since then, particularly with the new Law Enforcement Battalions that have just been stood up.

What are your particular questions, perhaps I can answer them. Some things don't change.

I was among the first Marines be formally schooled at Fort Gordon GA to hold the 5800 MOS back in 1970. What we learned was basic police proceedures such as crowd control, how to direct traffic, and accident & crime scene
investigation. Correctional Specialists learned about the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), rights of incarcerated individuals, security proceedures to prevent and/or quell riots and some self defense techniques to protect both prisoner and guard. After you report in to your duty station you'll more than likely go through a "snapping in" period where you'll learn base or facility proceedure from a "seasoned" Marine MP or Chaser there. You'll stand your appointed watches and take part in work parties, formations, PT and field days back at the Company area. That's it in a nut shell. Anything particular that you want to know about feel free to ask and if I can answer your question, I will.
