I got out of the Marines 20+ years ago.

I'm wearing my dog tags still because I ride a motorcycle and imaging it could come in handy if I'm smeared over the highway somewhere.

Someone noticed the other day that my social security number was printed on there, and pointed out what a big identity theft risk that was.

I imaging a person's social security number is no longer printed on their dog tags.

Here is what is on my dog tag:

Line1: Last name
Line2: First Initial, Middle Initial - - - - Blood Type
Line3: Social Security Number
Line4: Branch of Service - - - - - - - Gas Mask Size
Line5: Religious Preference

On Line 4, the Branch of Service (on my tag) simply has USMC. Gas Mask Size has the letter M (medium)

Line 5, when I was in, was limited to one of 3 choices: Catholic, Christian, or Jew.

How has this changed?

How come this question is in the Poolee/Recruit forum?

I put it under the "Ask A Marine" column. Otherwise, I'm liable to ask someone who's been out of the service longer than me! LOL

Mine has my service number instead of my SSN# and Bapt. for religion.

Mine have my service number.
Religion is Prot.

But I have been out much longer than you.

So, thinking about getting a new set made. I can get them on Amazon, shipped, for around $10.

A few things about the tags:

I don't think I'll go the social security number route.
Gas mask size doesn't really apply anymore.
I don't go to church and do not care for religion.

I do, however, ride a motorcycle every day. I imagine having some "easy to identify" parts on there might be beneficial in the event of an unfortunate smear on the highway.

What do you think would be good for a bike rider?

I'm thinking:

Name
Blood type
Emergency Contact Info

Other ideas?
