Hey Marines,

I was just wondering what it takes to get into the new MARSOC program. Such as -

How long do you need to be a Marine?

What should an officer candidate do to enhance his chances at getting in someday?

Can an officer from any MOS apply?

Also, what is needed to get into a Recon division? I know a lot of Marines in MARSOC come from Recon.

I would greatly appreciate any help. I was bent on going Marine Air, but, I haven't taken the ASTB yet, and I feel quite drawn as of late to Marine ground. I wanted to go ground originally anyway.

Thanks a lot Softball! That first thread was ultra-informative. Sounds like I have a ton of work ahead of me. If I don't get Infantry, I'll have to try to transfer in at some point, if I even want a shot at Recon or MARSOC. Perhaps I can see if I can get it in my contract to at least get a shot at joining Recon down the road. I honestly would like to be in the Corps a couple years and see some time in or around combat first, since that would season me for the job it sounds like. But, I nonetheless have this as a new goal.
