Good afternoon Marines,

My name is Travis Gale. I am a current poolee from Fort Worth, TX with the shipdate 20110606. My goal is to commission in the Marine Corps. My current contract is the IIADT split program. I will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall of 2011. I am seeking advice from all Marines (not just Marines with degrees, etc). I was wondering if anyone may be able to give me some insight to the IIADT, PLC, and NROTC programs. I will be apart of the Corps of Cadets at A&M, but I am unsure as to whether or not I will commission through the NROTC program or not. If there is someone that may be able to answer my question I would appreciate it. Also, I am looking for just any piece of information that will help me in my journey. Absolutely any advice is appreciated.

Thank you Marines.

Travis Gale

The IIADT enables you to go through boot camp, MCT, MOS training without interupting college. You will still be an enlisted man in the reserves even after you get your degree. PLC is where you go to part of OCS during one summer, part of OCS during another summer, then you are an officer when you graduate. NROTC - not sure, but when I was in college there was no NROTC path in the Marine Corps. You could do ROTC in college but you had to do OCS after college just like everyone else.
If you want to be an officer, call an Officer Selection Office near you for info on PLC.

Thank you very much sir!

I guess now my question is do you think it is a good idea to do the IIADT while I am in college if my ultimate goal is to seek a commission?

Three good sources of information. The Aggies have an NROTC program. I went through PLC because in the mid-late 70's very few colleges offered any type of military training.

I would not recommend enlisting in the reserve if you plan to be an officer. The reserve is not real exciting unless you deploy. Doing IIADT will cost the govt a lot of money, prevent someone else from getting that spot, and really won't help you be a better officer, IMHO. I think PLC is the best way to go for those going to college.
