Can any current marines that chose this when they enlisted give me some information? Anything will help. Helpful advice, your story, where you were stationed etc. Thanks I really appreciate it.

This was my MOS. I loved it. You can get stationed anywhere there is an airfield, and can go to any squadron that will have you (53s, 46s, cobras, harriers, tankers... etc) The biggest air stations are Pendleton, Miramar, Cherry Point, and New River. But we've also got stations in Hawaii, Japan, and Quantico. There is a lot you can do as well. You can work at squadrons, base ops, MAGs. And each one is different so, if you want, you can pretty much do something different each time you get new orders. At the squadron level (where I worked) you handle all the flight log books, flight orders, flight hours, flight schedule... to name a few. It's a lot of admin type work. Personally, I didn't have that much experience. I only did one enlistment. And actually, I didn't request this job. I requested something totally different. I have no idea how they decided to put me here, but I'm glad I did. Out of MOS school I got orders to HMX-1 which is the Presidential Helicopter Squadron. It was pretty awesome.

It's definitely a desk job, but you can get out and do some cool stuff if you want. If you're with a helo squadron you could request to get qualified as an aerial observer and go fly every now and then.

MOS school is in Meridian, MS... definitely not a vacation spot, but it is what you make it.

Anything in particular you want to know?

Thanks for your time. My recruiter said I will either get 7200 which is air control/air traffic control. or 7300 which is enlisted flight crew. They choose this for you correct? Which one were you placed into?

You are signing the AJ contract correct? I am a 7242(Air support net operator), what kind of information do you want?

Yeah that's correct. When did you find out what your more specific job was? Like I know I'm going to be getting something in 72xx or 73xx, but when will I find out the xx part? Where were you stationed at after boot camp?

During MCT you will learn what your MOS will be. Honestly you will most likely get either 7242, 7234, or 7251. My first duty station is MCAS Cherry Point.

I would be happy if I got 7251. Why do you say it will probably be one of those? And by MCT you mean... Sorry I'm just a poolee and still learning.

I wish I got that too but the Marine Corps gives you what they need. Because that contract is used to fill jobs within the Marine Air Command and Control System(MACCS), therefore dont expect to get an aircrew job with it. I know a lot of people that thought they were. MCT is Marine combat training, its what you do after boot camp, look it up.

Also in reference to your question as a 7242 you can be stationed in either Cherry point, Camp Pendleton, or Okinawa.

If you want 7300(enlisted aircrew), you have to sign AG, it's a different contract.

From what I've learned AJ covers both 7200/7300. What's the difference between AG and AJ?

yeah those are a different occfield than aviation ops. as 7041s we do everything from fill out navflirs and ***** at n00b officers checking in with half-assed log books at the squadron level to managing the training of entire air groups at the wing level or running flight clearance at an airfield

one of the easiest and POGiest jobs out there. plus they're the guys you'll suck up to during PFT time but it won't work because the order says elbows have to be locked out so you'll see them ****ing with the staff

"one, master guns....one, master guns...nope, still one, top. lock them elbows out, you can still get a couple more and pass" :bunny:

One of my best friends is 7041 (Aviation Operations Specialist) and one of his complaints is that they promote slowly. Like someone else posted, it is a desk job. Most of the people I know in the 7041 community want to get a different job, and I wouldn't want it either.
From my experience being around 7041s, you could end up doing all kinds of random paperwork and/or giving presentations to personnel about current and future operations (public speaking). For the most part, you would be limited to getting stationed at bases with airfields.
