I was reading some stuff on futurejarheads.com and I read something that sounded odd and I was wondering if you Marines can help me.

There was one of the bullets under the Saluting topic that said never salute enlisted. Does that mean you only salute Commissioned officers and not NCO's?

Enlisted salute officers....all ranks.

Junior officers salute the senior officers

All enlisted and officers are supposed to salute MOH recipients regardless of rank.

Enlisted might salute other enlisted depending on circumstances.

Changing of the Guard and Change of Command ceremonies come to mind.

Regardless of branch of service.

Thank you Ssgt. I take it enlisted would refer to E-1 to E-3 then? silly question and I'd probably salute everyone that was a higher rank than I.

If you are a private....all the way to Sergeant Major you are enlisted.

In some postings and re leavings a private may have to salute the corporal of the guard or sergeant of the guard.

They might even have to salute privates through lance corporals if the lance corporal is the acting COG.

When changing company/battalion/squadron/wing levels if there is a change of command they may salute each other when re leaving the old with the new and usally after colors are posted.

If you are going down the street and see another enlisted you do not need to salute....unless he/she is wearing the MOH.

All enlisted salute ALL officers.

Officers salute higher rank officers than themselves....

ALL enlisted and officers salute MOH recipients.

The old rule of thumb .....When in doubt salute.

You also salute vehicles that officer decals on them.

Pay attention to different branch of services rank structure....just because it is shiny or silver/gold doesn't always mean they are officers.

Also should you happen to run into a Warrant Officer, they rate a salute as well. Oh and the Commandant dog also rates one.

As per Cpl's Crs text 0107H:

"A common misconception is that you are required to salute enlisted recipients of the Medal of Honor. Notice that the key word is "required." This does not prevent you from saluting out of your own respect for the Marine and the Medal."

If in doubt, or it moves, salute it. Better to be safe than sorry. If you salute the wrong person, do not worry, you will immediately be told about it.

If it shines salute, if you see alot of black on the collar, give the greeting of the day. When saluting an officer and an enlisted person is with him, are you required to give the greeting of the day to the enlisted person too?

It can get confusing in different settings. Sheppard AFB, Texas is a big base. A technical training center.
They also train foreign pilots. When I was a JAG there, a Captain, I had no idea what rank these folks were. They looked like major generals and they were O-1 or O-2 in many cases, but I didn't want to take a chance on failing to salute a senior officer, so I could tell if I was senior by their laughs after I saluted and passed by. LOL.....

And all this time I was under the impression that the Air Farce personnel were not taught to salute. Every one that I have seen atempt to salute, it ended up being more of a wave. The also think that Police Call is dialing 911.:D

Here are three pages on saluting. Hope this covers all your questions but given where you'll be in the rank structure, as others have said if it moves salute it

Absolutely but one that never failed, especially with the Southern Belles was to say "by your leave ma'am" when either opening a door or just walking past. Better than a Platinum Visa Card......

LOL...got my first wife in this manner (with the salute at the gate...). A fine, (active duty sailor, 'Miss US Naval Station' 2 years running, when they still did that sort of thing) fine, woman.

Alas, t'was not to be, but was a fun ride nonetheless :)

How many hundreds of formations have I been in where the platoon sergeant recieves a report .... hand salute .... 1st squad all present and or accounted for etc. Next the platoon Sgt salutes the company gunny 1st platoon all present and or accounted for. Next the gunny salutes the 1st Sgt charlie company all present and or accounted for. Then the 1st Sgt Salutes the captain. Charlie company all present or accounted for. There are more layers if it is a battalion formation.

When I was a private I saluted a navy chief. He returned my salute and then shook my hand and thanked me. He told me he was enlisted and that I need not salute gold anchors.

One time I saluted a Navy Chief. She didn't blink, didn't miss a step, didn't even look at me. All she said as she passed (looking straight ahead) was, "nope."

I dont think I would crap on someone for saluting me. Obviously they are showing you some respect by doing so. I'd return the salute if someone saluted me. Obviously if they didnt have to I'd let them know afterwards.
