My names ericka im a 22 year old female. I had originally wanted to join the Marines its the first branch that i could ever think of wanting to be apart of. But soon found out that there was no medical field and that the Navy HM was there medical. So i went to the navy to go forth with that, got to MEPS and somehow was convinced to go with another job because HM wasnt available and that i could switch to HM before bootcamp. Well i would be leaving feb 16 2011 so that doesnt leave much time. I didnt want to settle for a job i never intended to do. I got a 56 on my ASVAB so i didnt think i did all that bad they just said HM was over manned? So I decided to go to the branch i want to do and that my heart is more dedicated to and that is the Marines. I did some research on jobs in the Marines but theres only so much you can find online. Is there any field involving search and rescue? And any advice on your MOS you did in the Marines would help i just want advice from those who have served themselves. Im open to many jobs i just want an idea of personal experience rather than just job descriptions. thans a lot and thanks for your time.

I am not aware of any MOS that involves any sort of search and rescue in the Marine Corps. Closest thing that comes to mind is crash fire rescue, where you'd be a glorified firefighter on the flight line at an air station.

Picking an MOS is strictly a personal decision IMO, you can listen to other Marine's experiences with different MOSs all day but ultimately its up to you and what you think you will be satisfied with for 4 years or more.

Best advice you're going to get from anyone.

Well I'm not a big fan of self promotion, but I might have the only job that has what you might be looking for.

I'm a 7051 - Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Specialist... We get full training in search and rescue procedures as part of the fire academy. As Marines, we are strictly crash crew. Search and Rescue wouldn't be used that often, but it's in the job description and you will be fully trained.

You have to roll the dice with a 7000 Open aviation ordinance contract and you might get selected for 7051.
