MOS 1316: Basic Metal Worker

Life in the Marine Corps as a Welder.
  1. Upgrading the Am Tracks with armor plating.
  2. This is the design our company wanted. It is very open and required lots heat to do just a little cooking.
  3. This is a repair I made to a connex box in Saudi Arabia. The busted up boxes had to be water tight before they could be used to ship parts over seas.
  4. Finished up repair, with Marine Corps paint.
  5. Welding, in action.
  6. Every once in a while, we'd get to work on little pieces of things like this tank. Cool!
  7. We got to build a lot of BBQ grills for different companies. This one was my design. Basic, rolled steel, so the heat only escapes in one direction.
  8. My finished Jack Stands
  9. Cracked cast iron transfer cases. These were difficult to weld up, because the cracks kept spreading as the welds cooled.
  10. Engine stands I built.
  11. This was our rowdy gang. Left to Right: Me, Rick Young, Robert House
  12. Some jack stands I built. Pointing out the saddle cuts I made for the pipe joints.
  13. These were some benches we built to go into these personnel boxes.
  14. Fast Attack Jeeps we built. The Marine Corps still has these Jeeps, new and in unopened crates. These Jeeps, built in 1972, had less than 6 miles on...
  15. He's Rick Young on one of our MIG machines.
  16. Check out this nice bumper I built for myself on my time off using skills I picked up in the service.
  17. TIG welding Aluminum
  18. TIG Tack welded Aluminum
  19. TIG welded Aluminum
