June 4, 1944 - We left Guadalcanal for Guam on the USS Ormsby. We were on the ship 47 days. We were to land on Guam June 15, 1944, but the heavy fighting on Saipan forced us to stay on the ship. We cruised toward Saipan in daylight and away from it at night. We thought we were going to help out on Saipan if needed. We were about 100 miles off of Saipan. They finally dumped us off on the samll Island of Eniwetok to stretch our legs and clean the ship and air it out. We were there about a day. Our landing on Guam was on July 21st.
