Administration Delays Change to Military's 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' Policy

A change to the controversial "don't ask, don't tell" policy toward gays in the military will be delayed despite promises by the Obama administration to overturn the rule, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Sunday.

"The president and I feel like we've got a lot on our plates right now and let's push that one down the road a little bit," Gates told "FOX News Sunday."

In January, President Obama's spokesman, Robert Gibbs, was asked whether his boss would overturn "don't ask, don't tell.” Gibbs' reply -- videotaped for YouTube -- was unequivocal.

"You don't hear politicians give a one-word answer much. But it's 'Yes,'" Gibbs said.

But Gates now says the Pentagon will continue to enforce the existing policy, which bars service members from proclaiming their sexual orientation and commanding officers from asking about it. However, the policy states that if it becomes known that a service member is gay, he or she is to be removed from the military.

"It continues to be the law and any change in policy would require a change in the law," Gates said. "We will follow the law, whatever it is.

"That dialogue, though, has really not progressed very far at this point in the administration," he added.

Not no, but hell no.

I have been away for a few days and was on 6 different airlines.

Each had a faggot dude stewardess.

Sick bastards.

It made me wonder what, whichever of the 'A's' it was, accord or achped that did all the kissing of 'men', just what in the **** they were thinking.

Again, not no, but **** no!!!!

I think they should but, like women, never in the grunts.

I think that a gay person who's willing to serve as, say an admin clerk or Air Traffic Controller, is more of a man and an American than a lot of those punk kids or so called thugs out there who would never consider it.

Provided they can conduct themselves professionally (that includes not acting limp wristed) they should be allowed limited duty.

a non-deploying status is a positive idea... many showers are stalls or on ship you have just a curtain....

if you want to be gay and serve then you do so by being the RBE... problem is they take up a deployable Marines spot.

I just can't imagine of myself being a roomate or in a fox hole with a gay Marine.

I noticed that 'no' came before 'yes' in that poll. Normally it is the other way around... some sort of hidden agenda there.

Anyways, my vote doesn't count. The only votes that count are the politicians' votes. Whether you like it or not, gays will be allowed in my beloved Corps- one day.

I had a fag arested when I was in Philly Hospital recovering from my wounds, in May 1969 for hitting on a bunch of us in a bar. Turned out he was trying to put the make on everyone in casual company. He was a body builder type fag and he got sent to prison. Good enough for mtrhe stinking pervert.

They are allowed now.
They just can't be overt about their sexuality.

truth is, why the **** does it matter? there are gays in the Marines and other branches of service anyway. just leave it as it is, there's no reason for everyone to know everyone's sexual preference. If people depped-in and had the option of putting down "gay" as their sexual orientation then it would just cause problems. we don't need to be worrying if the guy behind us is checking out our ass. If they're really a disciplined marine they wouldn't be, and if you were one you wouldn't be worried about it. you both know you have better crap to focus on.

IMO leave well enough alone
Your opinion may go for your peers, but it surely doesn't go for me.

The "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy was implemented by Bill Clinton within a few weeks of him taking office. Prior to that, applicants were specifically asked at the MEPS "Are you now, or have you ever engaged or participated in homosexual acts--that is, sexual acts with a person of the same sex." That policy worked just fine too except that Clinton had promised the queers he would allow them to serve in the military. Of course, after he took office he modified his position to the current policy because he met stiff resistance from the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

With that said, I am not the least bit concerned with some queer looking at my 6 O'clock. What I am concerned with is my Marine Corps. The Marine Corps is one of the last bastions of what good is left in this country, and that's the way I would like my Corps to remain. I resent some two-bit politician trying to shove his demented standards onto the Marine Corps--especially since he, like Bill Clinton, never served their country for one day of their miserable lives.

Who allowed a poolee in here?

Aren't they restricted to asking questions about the Corps... not dictating opinions to those who have served in it?
