Why should I join?

Hey everyone. I am really anxious about getting out of highschool/college because I want to join a branch. I am currently in MCJROTC in my highschool, and I love it. But alot of other services seem really nice (I was looking at the airforce because of all their benefits and living conditions) but I also really am looking at the marine corps.

So, could anyone answer this question for me. Why should I join the Marine Corps? How is the life? Benefits/living conditions? Basically, yeah...why take Marine Corps over any other service? Thanks alot.

Ooh rah

Sound like you just want the easy way and not the best way. All of the Services have the benifits and livng conditions varie at all services.
But if being the best is not what you want then you sould look else wheres and go to there sites. You have to ask yourself the big 1 do I want it easy.
If so good bye that is not the Marine way.

The question is why should the Marine Corps let you join? From this post, the answer is they shouldn't. It isn't about what you get, it is about what you can give. The life sucks and the living conditions are worse. You'll be sent to horrible places and be told to do unpleasant things. You'll work long hours and promotions are sometimes slow. If that doesn't sound like fun to you, visit the Air Force recruiter.

"the Few, the Proud, the Marines"

There are two reasons the USMC is "the Few, the Proud, the Marines".

The first it is in their heart, their blood and mind.

The second is they made it through bootcamp and "Earned the Title Marine".

I heard McDonalds is hiring. And if you cant make it their try Walmart.

Wow! You have got to be chitting me! Hey Karate Kid...hopefully you haven't hung around here long enough to read this post, but here it is anyway...RUN to the Air Force recruiter!!! Make your mommy proud! You don't join the Marines for the benefits and living conditions. If you haven't figured out the Corps in MCJROTC and why you would want to be one, you need to resign and find something better suited to you. Also, "Ooh Rah" is a patented Marine Corps term and shouldn't be used by non-Marines when addressing Marines. That is all...Dismissed.

just to throw in my .02

if you don't FEEL the NEED to be a Marine, you will never BE a Marine.

If you are looking for benefits and living conditions, the others are right, join the Air Force.

If you are that type of guy, you will only bring down the morale of your unit, should you ever be privelaged anoug to wear the EGA, and NO unit needs that.

best of luck in what you DO decide, youngster, but do NOT cast your shadow on the great men and women who have served before you in our beloved Corps if all you are looking at is the best situation for YOU.

The Marine Corps is about the best situation for our NATION, not individuals.

If MCJROTC has not taught you the love of my Corps and what being a Marine is all about then you must be a northern blue blood like John Kerry. You dont have the heart nor the green blood running within it to be a United States Marine! Go Chair Force and sit in comfort on the side lines and watch while we fight the super bowl for your freedom!
