Murtha Won't Run for House Majority Leader Until After November Elections - Marine Corps Community for USMC Marine Veterans

WASHINGTON — Rep. John Murtha, a candidate for House majority leader if the Democrats oust the Republicans from power in November, will not actively campaign for that post until after the elections, Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday.

Pelosi, D-Calif., said that Murtha, D-Pa., was suspending his campaign "in the spirit of unity to achieve our goal of winning a Democratic majority in November."

Murtha's office had no immediate comment and Murtha did not indicate that he was withdrawing from the party race.

Murtha, a pro-military Democrat who has gained prominence in recent months by leading his party in demanding an early troop withdrawal from Iraq, last week said he would seek the majority leader post if the Democrats regain the majority they lost in 1994. The party must gain 15 seats in the election to accomplish that.

The announcement put him on a possible collision course with Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md. Hoyer, second-in-command to Pelosi, who plans to seek his party's support to become majority leader if the Democrats win and Pelosi ascends to the position of house speaker.

I am not passing judgement, I am relating what has been publicized in the press and on the news media. Anyone who would toss our military to the dogs like ms murtha has is not a "fellow Marine"!!!!! I ain't making a name for nobody, I'm just stating the facts. ms murtha is a moron who happened to serve in the armed forces of the United States and that military service was served in the U. S. Marine Corps. I would question why one would defend ms murtha given his stance on Iraq and our military!!!!!!!!!! Everytime he gets in front of the media, he shows his lack of intelligence and common sense!!

He is a disgrace borderlining traitor. The traitors of this country in my humble opinion former pres. jimmy cater, frmr pres. clinton, frmr v.pres. al gore. These men have gone over seas to degrade the U.S. and get paid to do so, then come back and try and foul up our already hurting gov. The democratic leadership is flip floppy at best. Vote for one thing when it best suits them then vote another way when it doesnt. I am going to stop rambling now.
