If I had time, I could come up with another dozen or two I really like.

WAR MOVIES WAR MOVIES WAR MOVIE

I guess Where Egales Dare, Sands of Iwo Jima now this is not a real war movie but, a true story and I am showing my age but, The Fighting Sullivans, 12 O'Clock high and there are many more. However like alot of Nam vets I still can not get into that.

Age is nothing but a number

I am a little younger but I too like the Fighting Sullivan's. I grew up in the Buffalo area and the Marine Corps reserve station is right next the the USS Sullivan Memorial. On drill weekends my father would take me over to see the Sullivan and the USS Little Rock. Been years since I have seen that movie.

Good Call!

Full Metal Jacket (I visit with Gunny Ermy at least one a year out of pure nostaliga !!)

Black Hawk Down (Realism and accuracy to the book)

Band Of Brothers (Great Characters--they are real people)

Saving Pvt Ryan (Gritty, and the first of its genre I think--see above)

We Were Soldiers (Book was great, Movie good, made me weep for my age, my era and my luck)

Guadalcanal Diary (The first Marine film I ever saw--it sighted me in a direction)

The Sands of Iwo Jima (It comfirmed my aim)

The DI (Horrible acting but loaded with memories for me)

That's enough......

Thumbs up Top Ten Flix

Okay, we all know that to be a Marine and not like FMJ (Animal Mother was my inspiration for being an 0331!) would be blasphemy. This movie was/is/should be a prerequisite before going to boot! After that, watch it again with a group of jarheads and the first hour of the movie changes from a war movie to a comedy with a lot of memories thrown in!!! Add a few beers and everybody is reciting Hartman's lines!

1. Hamburger Hill (lots of realism with out the all the bugles and drums glorifying combat)
2. We Were Soldiers (The SGM reminds so much of my dad, a retired Army CSM!).
3. Saving Pvt. Ryan (I'm actually watching this right now!!)
4. Blackhawk Down (Book was excellent. A must read for the Commandant's List. Should've named this as an example of how not to run an Op.)
5. Sands of Iwo Jima (C'mon! The Duke in Dungarees and Boondockers charging up Surabachi with his Garand, telling the young gyrenes to "Saddle Up!" every five minutes and whooping Jap butt! How can you not include this one?)
6. A Bridge Too Far (Cast of thousands and another good example of over extending one's capabilities.)
7. The Band of Brothers series (This book is another one that should be/is? required reading for Marines.)
8. Lost Command (Anthony Quinn as a French Paratrooper Colonel fighting in Algeria after Dien Bien Phu. Excellent flick but a real bear to find or show up on cable.)
9. Kelly's Heroes (On the lighter side...)
10. Battle Cry (Gotta support Uris, a former Jarhead!)

Well, that's my top ten on war movies...

Thumbs up The Siege on Firebase Gloria

The Siege on Firebase Gloria has to be the best Nam movie I've ever seen.

Lee Ermy played a Marine Sgt Major, and did a better job in this movie than he did in Full Metal Jacket.

It's based on a true story that took place at begining of Tet 68, if you were a Marine in Vietnam, this is a must see.
