Thread: Filing taxes?

    Filing taxes?

I just graduated boot camp January 20th of this year... and just got back a W-2 from my old job.

I asked my mom to just file the ones from my old job but she said you have to wait for the Marines to send you something.. Is this true? Do I get sent something in the mail or do I have to call a place or what?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

W-2's are due to you on or before January 31, so you should be getting it soon.

Thanks for clearing that up, appreciate it.

You have to pull your W-2 off mypay. Go talk to your recruiter, he will be able to help you.

Technically, even though you had earnings for a couple of months, you may have only gotten a lump sum payment on graduation day. W2s are issued on pay and not on earnings. If you got your first pay on graduation, and that was in 2012, then you should contact your disbursing office clerk and ask what to expect.

If you haven't already, you will be required to register for a MyPay account when you check in to your first permanent duty station. You can view your LES's, manage allotments, change tax deductions, print W-2s, etc.

I have the same question about our Marine's W-2. He graduated 02 Dec 2011. Will one be mailed to his current home address? He's a week away from finishing MOS in Camp Johnson.
