I have not yet started the process. I intend to in a few months after I finish sorting some personal matters. My main concern between picking Active Duty or Reserves as an 0211 is whether or not I'll still have the deployment opportunities. I want to be deploying as frequently as possible. If I go Active, I know I will be stuck with only certain locations depending on which Battalion I go to whereas the Reserves have the freedom of any location so long as slots are available.

Certain reserve units are limited in their support too. The thing is the unit you interview with will determine whether or not you get to join the MOS. They are one of the few jobs in the USMC where they can pick who comes in. You will need to fit in with the unit you join. Its a really hard question to answer though. Are you are asking if the reserves deploy more than the active side? There are plenty of opportunities out there for AD and Reserves, plus you can support DIA, CIA and some joint units too but that is way down the road. You should probably start the indoc process, you may not even be qualified.

    CI Contacted Me

Really curious about this. CI reached out to me a few weeks ago. Im 1st MarDiv enlisted combat vet. 3 tours. Im one month away from graduating from an elite university. Im going about my business for the future and I get a call. Essentially did pre screen interview without knowing it, was put in contact with Msgt to find a PSR.

Call the PSR, he doesn't know anything about lat moving into 0211 (was definitely apprehensive). I had to explain the whole thing and how I was taken aback by it. He puts with another PSR whose leads I fall under.

Earlier on, CI rep was totally chill about it and to be frank even confident about the process. However, PSR says I may be over TIG and that with my ECC at the end of June, Id have to extend as IMA (report to to MCAGCC) and then play out the lat mov process while my package clears.

Thing is, the IMA billet seems a bit over the top given the situation. It is VERY distractive to the whole process, not to mention it would cause me to miss opportunities I would otherwise be able to take advantage of even if I just reported for OTJ. Big problem here is none of my marine buddies got contacted like this, and No One has any answers.

I would be a bit skeptical about the situation. I don't think that any units would do the A&S over the phone, but if you know them maybe they would. The TIG shouldn't matter, they can take a SSGT and send to the schoolhouse. As IMA you would augment the AD side so you may be committing yourself to a bit more than you want if you end up taking. I would call back to the unit and find out some details.
