Exclamation PRP Specialist 0471 and Switching to Active/Mos

I enlisted two days ago and ship out to boot on Nov. 13 of this year as a reservist in the 0471 field (due to being a re-dep I had limited job choices and this was the only one with a clearance) and I manly just have a few questions about how easy it takes to switch to active once in my unit. As well as being able to possibly changing my mos, as in how long it takes and how easy/difficult it may be. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Lastly what exactly would I be doing like just embalming fallen Marines?

Thank you Marines for anything you can help me with.

switching from reserve to active is a long drawn out process. I have been through it twice now in 2 years and been denied from the active side both times. If you want to be active duty then go active duty.

You will always have a choice, its just whether or not you want to wait it out to get what you want. Don't let a recruiter dictate the next 4 years or more of your life.

Don't let your recruiter tell you its easy to switch over to active because its not. Like I said in my first reply, it is long drawn out process with lots of paperwork up and down your chain of command all the way up to Marine Force Reserves HQ to get you released from your contract. Once that is approved you still have to get accepted into active duty and re-contracted. So that is why like was said if you want active duty then go active duty.

You are being fed some crap. I was a re-dep, still went active. They are just trying to fill their reserve slot. Tell the recruiter you want to be active or you'll withdrawl. The ball is in your court, not his.

The part about having limited MOS choices is true. You can shoose from what's open.

It's not easy to switch to reserve, especially with the DoD decreasing the numbers.

I can't stand recruiters. They fill so many people with misinformation they're about this || to becoming integrity violators in my opinion.

If you want to go active, go active. If there is a particular MOS you want, sign a contract with that MOS. If you're told that's impossible, find another recruiter because he's full of it, you may just have to wait for a little bit.

Unfortunately, even Marine Corps recruiters can be shady sometimes.
