As a personal aside, your Kate will be waiting for you Bob just as my Lorrie will be.
History was a love of mine. I don't know why I did not pursue becoming a teacher of American History. I would have made a good history teacher. I dislike people who try to rewrite history, on the other hand, the effort of past hisorians to try and make the United States appear to have no faults bothers me.

'1310 and Bob...that's something I always wanted to do as well. Even considered going for a History/Teaching degree come the spring semester at my local CC....only to discover that my so called "GI Bill benefits" stopped when I left the reserves. And there ain't no way this dude can afford college. So much for that 'grand' plan LOL.

I weep for what this country is becoming, and fear for my children and grandchildren's future if any more democrats gain national office. We lose more and more freedoms every single day to creeping nannystatism and those who vote for Democrats only want to increase that. Anyone voting for a 'dem' is someone who likely wants to take everything YOU have worked for and mortgage your kids future as well.

Trial attorney, all criminal law practice. Still trying to get it right after 31 years of practice.

USMC 1963-1967. College and law school, then went right in to USAF JAG officer, Captain 1979-1982 after law school, direct commissions in all services except USMC for doctors, dentists, chaplains, lawyers. I was too old to even consider OCS/TBS/JAG school in USMC.
While in USAF, was Spec Asst U.S. Attorney, then 1985-now, all criminal law trial atty in inner-city courts of a major U.S. city, never a dull moment.
Ready to hang it up in a year or two.
My Marine buddies and I were Morse Code Intercept Operators, 2571, now 2621. Even though they know the USAF thing was TWELVE YEARS after I got out of the Corps, it makes no difference to them for b...busting purposes........

LOL. Yep. I am really uncomfortable using "USAF retired". Much prefer "USMC, Retired". After all, that's where I spent most of my life LOL

Yeah, Sgt Lep, I was in the USAF for only 3 years, but every Sept 18th I get voicemails from various USMC folks making the sound of a bomb being dropped.....I didn't even know when the USAF birthday is, but they made it a point to find out....it's pretty bad...
But as we used to say in the barracks, "I'll get over it.......in time".

My own fault for even telling them...what gets me, they don't care if it was 12 or 100 years after the Marine Corps, I provided them the ballbusting materials, free of charge.....

    Dan,
Must be nice to get respected that way in your class room. I teach some of the math and physics classes at local colleges and I am lucky if they are present and if so not texting all through class. I was told NEVER again to collect and depot their phones in the sh!tcan to be collected after class. Guess I overstepped my bounds (again!) LOL.

Larry, I've had the pleasure to teach at both VMI and The Citadel. There is nothing like the respect you get dealing with military institutions. On the other hand I've also taught at CC's and liberal art colleges where I ran into the same problems you've encountered. Cell phones are big problem. I did try telling them to turn them off, most complied but there are always a few.... And their lap tops, some of these kids are sporting $2000 Mac Books. I had a talk with a custodian last month, he told me just in the Law School they found 18 lap tops in one week that "students" left behind. Amazing
