MOS that sees action besides 03?

I have a few questions for the Marines on here. I hope a few of you can help.

I really wanted an 03 MOS specifically mortarman, but my recruiter told me that all infantry is filled until August 2011 and honestly I do not want to wait that long.

My question may sound absurd, but I do not know who else to ask. I want to know what MOS if any is out in the field and see the most action besides infantry. Is there any other besides 03xx? I honestly do not know what I want to do.... I liked infantry because it sounded like everyday would be a challenge and interesting, something that I wouldn't be bored with. Another MOS that interested me was the 23xx field. I do not know much about it and couldn't find much on this site or outside either.

I know I should choose something that interests ME but I am stumped as of now. I just want a job were I would not be behind a desk all day everyday, get to see some action, and not get bored easily.

I must have looked at the MOS list a hundred times, but it doesn't matter because I want to know the details of them.

My asvab scores qualifies me for any open MOS. So please any help would be appreciated in this dilemma I'm having. I'm up for anything really, anything exciting but I also don't want to wait forever to go.

My current ship date is 20110118 for an open contrct, which I think will be the communications field. I do not want a later date then that.

Again thank you for taking the time to read this and help. Any input is appreciated.

Actually I have been informed of combat support, so I will be researching that. Thank you Marines and any more help is greatly welcomed.

I'm in training for 7051 Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Specialist. almost all of us will get deployed to a combat zone and be in the fight.

Dont think that just because your not Infantry, that you wont see action. There are always patrols and convoys in need of bodies. Find a job you like and then volunteer when deployed.

    Yea ok.......
what ever keeps you motivated I guess

If you think that everyone who gets deployed actually does sh!t then you are highly mistaken. Most people other than 03s, some combat enginners, some comm guys, some civil affairs guys don't really go out the wire and do stuff. We had Anglco guys and some arty guys with our company too.
Yea motor t, tracks and tanks do convoys, but where I was the taliban don't shoot at trucks, they just blow them up. Since they are armored and ussually have a big ass gun on the top of it.
Most other MOS don't even leave Camp Leatherneck or Dwyer. They're not needed. It's not the job. A grunts job is to find the *****es and kill them.

But this was only my experience is about a 10 click by 10 click area of Northern Marjah.
    Experiences may vary.

How about tanks? AAV crewman? LAV crewman?

If you want to guarantee yourself the opportunity to be outside the wire then go infantry or some sort of combat support.

That said, right now in Afghanistan almost everyone is getting some trigger time whether it be on patrol or convoy security. Quite a few friends of mine are just getting back right now and I know of 2 for sure that have their combat action ribbons and are not infantry....one is a supply clerk and the other is a bulk fueler.

Yea I'm going to look into those, thank you Marines.

Before that though I just talked to my recruiter, and now I have another dilemma. He said by the end of next month I need to be able to do 10 pullups, 90 situps, and 11min 30sec 1.5 mile or he won't let me join I'm not fat or overweight, just not particularly that strong now. I already have a ship date though...

So I got to raise my strength in about 1.5 months... hopefully I can do it. If not can he really kick me out? But I am confident I can do it, I used to be in good shape: wrestling captain, MVP, used to lift a lot just lately like the past 6-8 months I haven't been working out.

But thank you again, I'm going to look into them and keep working my butt off.

Even infantry you can't guarantee a combat deployment. MEUs always are happening and infantry is a part of those.

No matter your MOS, it's a roll of the dice whether or not your going to a combat zone.

A combat engineer assigned to the Combat Engineer Battalion within one of the divisions is basically a grunt with more gear to carry.

Now, if you are an engineer assigned to the Force Service Support Group, all bets are off.

It may be an easier question if you asked what mos would never see combat?

I don't think there is an answer for that one, at least not in the Corps.

In today's war, there are plenty of Marines that don't even take their rifle out of condition 4. It's better served as a piece of jewelry than a killing device.

While I know bulk fuels isn't a glamorous MOS and would probably never see much combat, I am with a bulk fuel reserve unit and all the deployments that we have been getting activated for are all as provisional rifle/security. We have Marines just getting back from the 'ghan with CARs.
